Services and prices
We provide independent English-language assessment and feedback, including IELTS writing feedback, live IELTS speaking mocks, combined packages and workplace communication assessments. The scope, inclusions and current price are shown on the relevant service page or in a written quote.
Prices are in pounds sterling. Prices may change for future orders, but a confirmed order will not change unless you agree to alter its scope. A bespoke corporate quote may set different deliverables, volumes, deadlines or payment terms and takes priority where it expressly differs from these terms.
Ordering and the contract
You place an order by completing the requested order or booking process and paying the stated price. A contract is formed when we send an order or booking confirmation. We may decline or cancel an order before work begins and issue a full refund, for example if the requested service is unavailable, outside scope or cannot be provided safely or lawfully.
The purchaser must provide accurate information, the correct writing and task question, suitable contact details and any information reasonably needed to deliver the service. Delivery time starts only when payment and all required material have been received. If something is missing or unclear, the timetable pauses until it is supplied.
PURCHASER CONFIRMATION
Who may purchase
The person making the purchase must confirm:
“I confirm that I am 18 or over and am purchasing this service for myself or with authority to purchase it for the candidate.”
Writing feedback may be purchased by an adult for a candidate under 18. Live speaking services are available only to candidates aged 16 or over. A candidate aged 16 or 17 must have consent from a parent or legal guardian before the session. Live speaking services are not currently offered to children under 16.
Delivery and UK working days
- Writing: the report is normally delivered by the end of the next UK working day after payment, the writing and the task question are received.
- Speaking: the report is normally delivered by the end of the next UK working day after the live session.
- Workplace assessment: the report is normally delivered by the end of the next UK working day after both the speaking and writing components are complete. Larger cohorts or role-specific work follow the written quote.
A UK working day is Monday to Friday, excluding UK bank holidays. These are service targets, not guarantees where delay is caused by missing information, illness, technical failure or events reasonably outside our control. If a material delay occurs, we will contact you and provide a revised time.
Your responsibilities
You agree to:
- submit work that the candidate produced and that you have the right to share;
- provide complete, accurate information and not impersonate another person;
- avoid including unnecessary sensitive information, unlawful material, malware or third-party confidential content;
- join live appointments on time from a quiet place with a suitable internet connection, microphone and camera; and
- use the service and report lawfully and in accordance with these terms.
For workplace assessments, the commissioning organisation is responsible for giving candidates appropriate information, establishing a lawful basis for the assessment and using the results fairly.
HUMAN PROFESSIONAL JUDGEMENT
How assessment and AI support work
All examining work is carried out by a human. The examiner reads or listens to the candidate's performance, applies the relevant criteria, selects evidence, decides any estimated band or level, writes the assessment findings and approves the report.
ChatGPT/OpenAI may help organise examiner-written notes, improve clarity and formatting, and place the completed assessment content into the report structure. It does not examine the candidate, choose the evidence, calculate or decide a score, or make a recruitment or other decision. Any AI-assisted text is reviewed and approved by the human examiner before delivery.
What the results mean
IELTS-related reports provide an informed, independent estimate based on the evidence available and the publicly available IELTS band descriptors. They are not official IELTS results and do not guarantee a particular score in a future test. Performance, task conditions and professional judgement can lead to different outcomes.
The assessor is a former IELTS examiner. The English Examiner is independent and is not affiliated with, approved by or endorsed by IELTS, Cambridge University Press & Assessment, the British Council, IDP or any IELTS test partner.
Workplace reports provide an indicative, CEFR-referenced view of English communication in the tasks completed. They are not regulated qualifications and should not be used as the sole basis for recruitment, dismissal, promotion or another decision with significant effects. Employers remain responsible for fair, role-relevant and lawful decisions.
Speaking appointments
Speaking sessions take place live online and are not recorded. Session notes are used to prepare the report. Candidates must not record a session without written agreement.
You may move one speaking appointment without charge by giving at least 24 hours' notice. With less than 24 hours' notice, or if the candidate does not attend, the fee is normally not refunded and a new appointment may require a new payment. This appointment policy does not remove any cancellation right you have by law; see the Cancellations and refunds policy.
If our technical problem prevents the session, we will offer a new appointment or a refund. If the candidate's connection prevents a fair assessment, we will act reasonably in deciding whether the remaining session can continue or a replacement appointment is needed.
Cancellation and immediate performance
Consumers who buy online normally have 14 days to cancel a service contract. Because reports may be delivered within one working day, we ask consumers who want prompt delivery to make an express request for work to begin during that period:
“I request that The English Examiner begins the service during the 14-day cancellation period. I understand I may have to pay for work supplied if I cancel after work begins, and that I lose the right to cancel once the service is fully completed.”
If you cancel after work has started at your request but before it is complete, a proportionate amount may be charged for the service supplied. Once a personalised service has been fully performed after the required request and acknowledgement, the statutory right to cancel ends. Nothing in these terms limits remedies where a service is faulty or not as described. Full details are in the Cancellations and refunds policy.
Ownership and permitted use
The candidate or relevant owner keeps rights in the writing and other material submitted. You give us permission to use that material only as needed to deliver, quality-check and administer the service as explained in the Privacy policy.
The report design, assessment format, explanatory material and website content belong to The English Examiner or its licensors. A candidate may use their report for personal learning. A commissioning organisation may use its report internally for the agreed recruitment or development purpose. Reports must not be resold, presented as an official IELTS result, materially altered in a misleading way or used to reproduce the service or templates.
Liability and consumer rights
We provide the service with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your statutory consumer rights.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for an IELTS result, admissions decision, employment decision, loss caused by relying on an estimated score as a guarantee, or indirect or unforeseeable loss. For business customers, our total liability arising from an order is limited to the amount paid for that order, except where the law does not permit that limit.
Complaints, events outside our control and law
Send a complaint to hello@theenglishexaminer.com with your order details and the outcome you are seeking. We aim to acknowledge it within two UK working days and provide a substantive response within 14 calendar days.
We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by events reasonably outside our control, but we will take reasonable steps to minimise disruption and offer an alternative where appropriate.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, but a consumer living elsewhere in the United Kingdom retains any mandatory rights and may bring a claim in the courts available under applicable consumer law.
